Outcome signals worth collecting.
The path to billing codes and reimbursement runs through outcomes data. The data we need to collect is not exotic — it is mostly just not yet collected systematically.
- Spelling speed, accuracy, and message length over time.
- Number of communication partners with whom the typist communicates reliably.
- Educational placement, accommodations used, and academic progress.
- Family-reported quality of life, self-determination, and behavioral health markers.
- Healthcare utilization changes — emergency visits, behavioral crises — before and after communication access.
A shared, simple data schema across practitioners would let the field aggregate signal in ways no individual study can. If you are interested in co-designing one, the sister organizations linked in our footer are the right place to start a conversation.
